Description:

This position is for a Classroom Assistant for the VR/AR program on the Southern Utah University campus. This role involves preparing a fleet of 32 headsets for use in the classroom and in occasional events for showcasing and awareness on campus grounds. This is a highly visible, front-facing role and serves as a first-line contact for faculty, staff, students or community members visiting the space. The VR/AR Classroom has a growing library of programs for educational, therapeutic and recreational use and the candidate will be expected to maintain regular aptitude for the software we utilize.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing regular demonstrations and presentations on the functionality of the Meta Quest 3 headset, as well as supporting individuals in brief, one-on-one sessions whom may not be familiar with extended reality technology.
  • Management of priorities when approached with rapid questions from professionals and newcomers in, at times, a high-stress environment based on the unfamiliarity or skill level of the user.
  • Working independently is regularly necessary, to ensure the classroom is readily available throughout the standard school day.
  • At times, small teams will be necessary for troubleshooting & maintaining hygienic standards of headsets or coordinating staffing in events.
  • The candidate will report directly to the VR/AR Coordinator on campus in a combination of in-person, group chat and e-mail.

Qualifications:

  • Highly punctual and organized
  • Familiarity with cleaning and maintaining electronic equipment
  • Ability to manage multiple requests for support at once under pressure
  • Able to troubleshoot issues quickly with hardware and deployed software
  • Welcoming, supportive personality
  • Respond to stressful, elevated situations with grace and professionalism
  • Able to distill and explain complicated technical terminology to unfamiliar individuals
  • Able to stand up and perform presentations and demonstrations up to 3 times per day
  • Flexibility to leave the classroom and support events as needed
  • Can work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to work in small teams at times
  • Familiarity with the ability to navigate, troubleshoot and showcase the following hardware and associated software:
  • Meta Quest series
  • Apple Vision series
  • Samsung Galaxy XR
  • Able to wear a virtual reality headset for up to 2 hours, per work day
